What is Surfing The Darkwave?

A comedy goth radio show that aired fortnightly from Sydney’s hideous UTS building Broadway, on 2SER-fm early Sunday mornings, to a small but loyal audience from 1998 to 2000. The show featured interviews, live performances, live mixes, guest DJs, live shenanigans, arguments, dirty looks, ciggy breaks and all sorts of unexpected chaos.

Initially hosted by Joe and Jeff, joined by Nixie, Marc and DJ Tombstone.

Where did the name come from?

It was inspired by The Cramps song Ultra Twist…

Recent movements leave one cold

It’s a big improvement and very bold

Hangin’ ten on a shockwave

Hangin’ out like the new breed say…

How did you get the word out?

The show was promoted in goth shops on Enmore Road, record shops in Sydney’s CBD with flyers and posters and with ads in Sydney street press.

The show went off air in early 2000, superseded by “Ex-Inferus” which aired Wednesday mornings at 3am and lasted until 2002.

Thanks to 2SER-fm and our listeners.

In 2017, Surfing The Darkwave returns as a podcast.
